Rauw Alejandro
Despacito was a track from the year 2017 released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top streamed and downloaded song worldwide within just the space of six months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music has not only brought an interest to the genre, but also to Latin music as a whole. The Billboard Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs in 2016, and two songs in 2015. In 2017, during the height of popularity for Despacito, 19 tracks mainly in Spanish have made it into the Billboard Top 100. The year 2020 will see it will have 41 tracks that fall into this category. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017 famous artists started to work with reggaeton performers. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together on MIA (2018) as did Madonna and Maluma. Madonna collaborated with Maluma to record Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. In 2020, several Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the trend of the genre toward the mainstream. But a newer generation such as Rauw Alejandro was determined to maintain the development. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music and different styles was an accepted practice.
